Greetings All,
SPRING HAS SPRUNG…. And it feels great!!. Along with spring starts our very busy schedule of events.
We had our first Combat, and what an event it was!!! We had eleven combaters and the events where tuff. Very exciting with a number of mid airs and even more ribbon cuts. Congratulations to everyone who joined in for the first time and congrats to Sam Hovey for getting the highest single day score ever!! Also it was really great to see all the people who came out to enjoy the day and see the action. We had a full set of bleachers and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun.
I would also like to thank everyone who participated in the Mall Show and the past Work Party. We had a great turn out in both.
This next month we have a Combat 4/3, The General Meeting 4/13 , Swap meet 4/17 and Our Spring Opener on May 1st. With all of these up in coming events I hope you can get out and get some flying in.
I’ll see you in the Pits,
Chris

COMBAT HAS STARTED !
2004 Combat standings by point totals:
· 1st -Sam Hovey (840) · 2nd - Kyle Woyshnis (600) · 3rd - Jim Montell (580) · 4th - Rick Fuller (500) · 5th - Mike Dunlap (460) · 6th - Chris Bessex (380) · 7th - Ken Crow and Bud Arnold both have (320). · 8th - Bill power (220).
This is a lot of fun and creates one of the biggest adrenalin rushes you can have in this hobby. Once a month we fly four rounds each of 4-minutes duration. The airplanes are inexpensively scratch built for obvious reasons (note the pile of wreckage in the photo on the right.) We have room for more pilots and this event runs through October. Contact Chris Bessex for more info or come to the field and watch the next combat on April 3rd.

2004 KIDS SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM
This years Kids Summer Training Program will be held on Saturdays. from Noon to 2pm. This change from last years weekday schedule should allow more member participation in this worthwhile program. Anyone who carries an Instructor Certification can help train the future RC flyers. Those who are not Instructor Qualified can help out in the pits by fueling, charging batteries, assisting in the transportation of airplanes to the flight line, and answering the many RC related questions the kids have. This program is “highly endorsed” by the county and helps support our fields future. Anyone interested in helping out , or donating a trainer, should contact Danny Mason at (360)-876-9378. Ed.
The following is this years Kids Training Program schedule:
June 12th - June 26th - July 10th - July 24th - August 28th - September 28th

FIELD REPORT
Folks, I've noticed a distinct lack of using spotters properly now that I get out to the site a little more, lately. The spotter should be somewhere in the vicinity of the flyer, not back at the tables. The spotter should also, be looking out for, among other things, full scale aircraft flying near our site and announcing their presence to the flyer (s). I've seen several instances of models that looked like they were above a full scale and there was no announcement of the full scale's presence by anybody. The last thing we need is to have FAA coming down on us and putting restrictions on our flying or , worse yet, closing us down. Believe me, they will be on us in a heartbeat if they get a complaint from a full scale pilot about a model flying too close. This is probably the most important thing in our day of flying that could affect our future use of this site.
We also, need more diligence by spotters in announcing what other models are doing i.e. taking off, landing, etc. These planes cost a lot of money so running them together is best avoided by knowing where everyone is and what everyone is doing.
One last note, particularly for the newcomers. Not that it has been a problem but the newcomers may not be aware of this. There is one parking spot defined by yellow ropes right in front of the lowest table in the pits. This spot was designed for those handicapped flyers that have to operate from a wheelchair (three wheel scooter). The width of the spot is required for the offload of their wheelchair (three wheel scooter). It also, has to be level. Feel free to use it if there is no wheelchair (three wheel scooter) type flyer at the site but you should be prepared to vacate the parking spot and table if such a handicapped person arrives to fly. I know this sounds a little self serving but it applies to any person that meets the wheelchair (three wheel scooter) requirement, not just me. People like me can't fly without having the low table and having their stuff readily available. This also, applies to the lowest barrier at the flying spots. The higher barriers are right at eye level for a person who has to sit to fly. Like I said, it hasn't been a problem and this is just meant as an explanation for those that aren't aware of it. Your continued cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
Marlin Little, Field Committee Chairman

SAFETY REPORT
I have been approached about the safety of the starting benches facing the pits. In the case of a prop spin-off the prop can fly into the pit area. Of course if we turn them around then the prop spin-off goes toward the fliers, and taking the planes off from the side they are on gives free access to the taxiway without obstruction. A forty-five has been suggested, as a compromise. I’m open to suggestion if you think you have the answer lets talk. Remember safety is everyone's responsibility, Fly safe and have fun.

EDITORS NOTE
About the club membership roster. Jim Hyson and I have discussed this and have decided on this approach. If you have Microsoft Word (or Office) call or send me an e-mail and I will send you the latest update as an attachment to e-mail. If you do not have these programs, call either Jim or myself and we will print out and mail you the latest roster update. This will save the club money and also ensure you have the latest roster we have. We hope this works for you.
For those who have access to our web site be advised that our URL (address) will be changing NLT April 14th. I will notify the members of the new URL via e-mail when this takes place. This is due to Charter Communications changing over to Wave Broadband.
Take Care & Happy Flying.
