ARC of the Year Award

I have had a lot of inquiries about this award so for those new members that do not know about this prestigious award here’s the low down. Our club has presented this award since it’s inception. Originally this award was called the Carl J. Smith Memorial Trophy ARC of the Year Award and along with the plaque there was also a trophy that was passed to the winner from year to year. The trophy aspect was dropped in 1999.  This award is given annually to the member who has performed outstanding achievements “for the club” over the past year.  At the December meeting a secret ballot is taken among those members present. These ballots are placed in a sealed container to be delivered to an independent trophy shop so that a plaque can be made in honor of that years winner. Once completed the trophy shop seals the award and destroys all ballots. Only at the annual banquet when the sealed award is opened by the president does any member know who the ARC of the Year is. WILD & WACKY WINGS

Mark your calendar for our July 23rd Club Picnic and Wild & Whacky Wings ( WWW)  ............. Picnics we all understand, but what the devil is WWW? Well, it's just like it sounds; an event for goofy or crazy R/C planes. For an example some of the planes I've seen in similar events had fuselages made up from a series of plastic pop bottles, another one used an air mattress for wings and on yet another the wings were a series of vertically stacked venetion blinds. Just let your imagination and ingenuity run wild and go for it.

We’ve invited the Snohomish Radio Aero Club (SRAC) to join us in the fun. They have been running this event for eight or nine years now  and it's one of their larger yearly event. Along with the picnic and WWW we will be putting on a few simple competitive events for more traditional R/C planes. The key here is that any and all types of planes and pilot proficiency levels will have an equal chance. Some great prizes are planned for this and WWW.

WWW    Rules

1. Entries can be scratch built or originate from a kit or be a modified ARF.

2. All entries must be radio controlled.

3. Power is optional, i.e. gas, electric, glow, glider or  ?

5. All entries are subject to a basic safety inspection with regards to structural integrity and controllability.

6. Awards will be decided by an impartial Judge's.

WHEN AT THE FIELD….. THINK SAFETY

NEW YEARS DAY FLY 2005

This year it was clear, calm and crisp at the field. A really great day for our 1st fly of 2005.  Three times more members than last year came out to test their thumbs and brave the cold weather.  Monte Foust brought his heater which ended up as being the most popular spot in the pits. The average flight was ten minutes which was about as long as your thumbs would work. Everyone there was in great spirits and had a wonderful time. As far as I know there was only one crash which was apparently caused by a radio failure. This year the club has many fun events scheduled so come on out and join in fun.  Ed.

2004 ANNUAL BANQUET

As in years past the 2004 Annual Banquet was a fun social affair. Awards were again given out to the members who stood out in 2004 (see Meeting Minutes page 3 for details.) Although the cost of dinner was higher than in the past ($24.00 per person) the entrées were excellent. I may have missed it but I do not remember anyone having desert? We did not have a guest speaker this year and with the threat of snow the festivities ended early.  Ed.

EDITORS NOTE

I have been at this for almost three years and after some careful consideration I have decided that it’s time for someone else to step forward and take over the jobs of club newsletter editor and website manager. The current Arclight files are in Microsoft Publisher and the website uses the Microsoft Front Page format. These are registered software and cannot be transferred. The “latest version” of each program will have to be procured by the club unless someone has this software or decides to change the format. My last Arclight will be the March 2005 issue. I’m sure this will allow sufficient time for a smooth turnover. I will provide some support (if needed) for the new editor and web site manager to help him, or her, come up to speed. It has been an interesting three years for the club and these duties were, at times, very enjoyable and rewarding. Let me know if you are interested. Ed.

!! NEXT MEETING Tuesday, FEBRUARY 8th, 2004 "7pm"
