FROM THE LEFT SEAT The Air show is just around the corner, Sept. 16th and it will be the most important one that we have had. All of the Kitsap County Commissioners and the Parks Dept. dignitaries will be in attendance for the dedication of Little Field in memory of Marlin Little, who was the driving force in acquiring our flying site. His widow, Lynne, and her family will also be our Guests of Honor. Although we haven't finalized the details of the ceremony, we hope to have a rough draft by the time the August 8th club meeting rolls around. What I'm leading up to is that I'd like to see a massive turnout at this meeting and a record number of volunteers to pitch in and help make this our best Air Show, ever. Think about it; with all of the county dignitaries in attendance it will be one of our best opportunities to promote our dream of moving the tree line back a ways. { Any one out there who wants to crash their plane into a tree to prove our point ? ] I'd also like to see a whopping turn out for a pre -Air Show work party [ time and date to be announced later ] to show off what we have accomplished in the " old gravel pit ". So please plan on attending and pitching in. Your club needs you !! Thanks, Al

ARCS MEETING MINUTES Aug 8, 2006 Meeting called to order by President-Al Franklin at 7:00 pm New members/ Guests: Caleb Gardiner Treasures report: Read and accepted Minutes: Read and accepted as written Field Maintenance: Al discussed the low turn-out for the work party in July. He reminded the membership that these work parties are a club event and not the sole responsibility of the event sponsor. Another Pre-Air Show work party will be scheduled in the near future. Time and date TBA. County/Field Committee: Al stated he and Bob Brusa would be meeting with the County Commissioners in the near future to discuss future developments at the field. The county is continuing to develop proposals and map out future strategies for the land. Eventually, there will be public meetings to get inputs, No dates or times as of this date. Safety: As always, practice safety at all times. It was noted that the installation of an Air Alert buzzer on your aircraft may save a lot of searching in the brush. Events: Wild and Wacky- August 12 Float Fly- August 19 September 12- Monthly meeting at Club house September 16-Air show For information on upcoming events see the club website. Instruction: Elliott Burks was presented his flight qualification certificate Old Business: Jim McEdward presented the club with a third place plaque for specialty groups for the Fathoms of Fun Parade. Jim was presented a gift certificate for dinner for two in appreciation for all his hard work in organizing the float for all the parades. Corky said Combat was going very well this year. It appears all pilots skills are improving. He did mention he would like to have more members volunteer to help officiate and to enforce the rules of combat. If interested pleas contact Corky. Bill Bambrick discussed the upcoming Mal show. It appears trains, boats and cars may be represented as well as our aircraft. Bill said he would be setting up a planning meeting some time next month. Lorin stated the kids program was a go however the turnout is less than ideal. He had 2 kids the first week and three the following week. There is plenty of fuel left. He wished to personally thank all those who have come out and helped with this program. New Business: Al mentioned that Kyle Woyshnis has been doing will in his quest to be a champion, but felt that the club may not be as supportive as it could be. All requested inputs/ideas of how the club could better support Kyle in his endeavors. The idea of renovating the runway was discussed. In the July issue of Model Aviation, there is an article about a club who used a product called Propex to renew their runway. Bob Brusa presented some background information on this material as well as how the material was purchased and ultimately installed. Al suggested we think about the club doing a runway upgrade in the spring. Until then, further ideas are solicited. Mike Gardiner and his dad have started a construction company. He stated he has a tractor that will remove Scotch Broom and other brush. Al requested Chris draw up a proposed cost analysis for removal of the Scotch Broom and Brush at the field and present it to the Board of Directors. Al discussed the upcoming airs show. He presented a list of work assignments and the chairmen of each assignment. Bill Bambrick will look into inviting various vendors to the show. We will be raffle off an airplane again this year. There will be a planning meeting August 22 at Al's place 7:00pm Questions and Concerns: Bud Arnold called attention to the fact that the wind sock had been moved closer to the edge of the field. This was to prevent it being damaged as make it easier to see. Bud also mentioned he had a new wind sock coming with a portable mounting system that can be put away each day after the flying session. It was noted that some of us may have some old epoxy that has become thick and appears to be of little use. If it is put in the micro wave for about 15 secs on medium range it will return to its normal consistency and can be used again. Drawings and prizes. The quarter drawing won by Harold "Boots" Keith, but as he was not at the meeting couldn’t collect this amazing amount of money. The raffle plane was taken home by Jim Johnson. New raffle prize is a Gift Certificate in the amount of $150.00 at Hobby Outlet. Tickets will be available at the September meeting. Show and Tell: Don Gillette showed his Bird of Time glider that he had converted to gas power. It has a 117" wingspan and is an ARF. He had not flown it as of this meeting. Lorin Miller is donating a Hi-Start system to the club for use with gliders. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. Next Meeting, September, 12, 2006. 7:00 PM at the Sunny slope improvement club.
