Meeting Minutes Not read, pre-empted by Guest Speaker

Field Committee; No report

Instruction; We have a new pilot, John who is entering the training program.

Shows and Promotional:  April 17th.  Air show planning committee. Meet at Al Franklin's shop. Everyone is welcome to come, give ideas and help plan the airshow.  Please volunteer.

AMA:  No report

Safety: No report.

Guest speakers; Jerry from Port Townsend Aero Museum.  Last year we donated $500 to the Port Townsend Aero Museum.  Jerry and his crew helps all minors, including troubled kids learn about aircraft restoring.  Jerry spoke of the amazing successes these young men and women have had.  Presently there are only a couple dozen kids' busy restoring planes.  Over a hundred past kids are now in college getting straight A's with only a few B's.  Many of them still come and visit in the summer and help with the kids.  One source of the Aero Museum's income is the restoration of airplanes from the private sector.  Of course, much of it is from donations.   He mentioned he doesn't have to go out and solicit donations anymore, which he hates.  The donations just roll in.  Jerry also brought along a display of the new museum.  There were also displays of two new buildings.  Construction has not begun on the two new buildings.  No solvents, spray painting is allowed in the main museum.  They have a spray booth composed of canvas and visqueen.  Amazingly, the paint jobs are coming out pretty good in this makeshift booth, but one of the new building will be used for future paint spraying.  the smaller of the two buildings will be used for fabric lay up.

Old Business;   No meeting occurred with Parks Commission.

New Business;

1) Al mentioned donations from Howard Hupe for kids program.  Will work also for prizes at spring opener, air show, etc.  Howard traveled all over the world - Turkey, Saudi Arabia to mention a few.  In these countries, he was involved in R/C.  He will be a guest speaker at the next meeting in May.

2)  Al mentioned the Parks Department is hurting for money.  Need to get them go cut brush under trees or possibly topping trees, rather than trying to convince them to cut trees.

3) Al mentioned to make our club successful we need to make ourselves more visible as a club.  We should also come up with a 1, 2 , 3, 4 or even a 5 year plan.  We should do demo flights at the Kitsap County Fair.  We should also consider getting named politicians to be present and possibly speak at our air show.

4)  For our air show we need to get a commitment in writing from vendors.  Last year we had some no shows.  We want notification if there is to be a no show.  we also need to knock on doors to recruit sponsors for the air show.  The Vancouver Air show had lots of raffles to get money.  We can do the same.  Food service is also another money maker.  Vancouver also had several news reporters covering the air show to promote it.  We cold notify radio stations to promote the air show.  We also need a flyer real soon.

5)  Jim mentioned that he needs to get banners modified for the parade.  Al Franklin volunteered to help with this.  Any other volunteers?

6)  Saturday Breakfast went from 4 people (March) to 10 or so (April).  This occurs first Saturday at 8 am.  Breakfast is at the Bremerton Airport lounge.  It's a very enjoyable time to have breakfast and talk about aircraft.

Next breakfast is at 8 am on Saturday (May 3rd).

7)  April 15th will be Wounded Bird Club at Harvey Smith's shop (7 pm).  Bring your damaged airplane and the club experts in rebuilding will give you a hand at helping put it back together.

8)  Port Orchard parade is on June 28th.

9) Armed Forces parade is May 17th.

10) July 19th Wild and Wacky/picnic.  We still need a CD.

11)  Elliott mentioned there is a $15 late fee if you haven't turned in your yearly dues.

12)  Loren Miller mentioned we should give out a spare roster to anyone who ask for it.  This was accepted.  If you want a roster, ask Elliot.

Show and tell; Lorin Miller showed his Spadmat combat plane that uses aluminum channel for fuselage.  It also uses a folded polictical sign for the main wing.  It gets an aerodynamic shape at the fold.  He will build this for anyone who wants it.  He also reported he wants to start the paper work for Greg Tinnius to become an intro pilot. The secretary will start the ball rolling.
