September Play-by-Play
by Duane Barrett, Contest Coordinator
Overview
I arrived at the field about 8:00am to find three pilots already flying, not all were racers. Weatherman predicted cloudy and only a 10% chance of rain, but we had a mostly sunny day. By the time racing started the wind was about 2mph and in the right direction for immediate racing. We had an good turn out for today, considering it was Labor Day weekend.. Competition Saturday in September was an interesting day for all and a fun day. Thank you to everyone who were kind enough to show up and support us today. We had about 15 people counting all the spectators and racers, maybe more.
Weather
Mostly cloudly with about a 2 to 4 mph wind blowing the right down the runway for immediate racing. Perfect weather fo us.
T-28 Class
Heat 1, Section 1:
We had seven pilots and they all wanted to race at once so we only had one section of seven today.
Terry first, Rick F. second, John C. third, Geo B. fourth, Dave H. crashed out about the third lap near the south pylon turn, Nick M. fifth and new to racing Joseph S. was sixth. The first take off was a busy one!
Heat 1, Section 2: No Section 2
Heat 2, Section 1: Terry first, Rick F. Second, John C. third, Geo B. fourth, Nick M. fifth, Dave H. hit the north pylon about lap 5 and crashed out again, Joe was sixth.
Heat 2, Section 2: No Section 2
Heat 3, Section 1: Rick first, John C. Second, Geo B. third, Nick M. fourth, Dave H. and Joe did not get airborne. Also Terry was DQed for flying over pilot"s side of the runway after a collision with Rick just before the last heat. Un-avoidable but rules are rules.
Heat 3, Section 2: No Section 2
T-28 Wrap Up: We had seven pilots for today's racing. Considering that we flew all seven in one heat the take offs were very busy, but all seven airborne in two of the three heats without crashes. Joe did not crash but did not get airborne in the third heat. We flew again today without pylon judges on the honor system and the CD's calls. Also No streamers since we had no pylon judges. Back to having more fun racing and less restrictions. I believe that everyone had a good day today. Good turn out considering the Holiday and thanks to everyone for your support. If you didn't make today we understand why.
Reno Class
Heat One: Rick first, Terry second, John C. third, Geo fourth, and Nick M. fifth.
Heat Two: Rick first, Terry second, John C. third, Geo fourth, and Nick M. fifth.
Heat Three: Terry first, Rick second, John C. third, Geo fourth, and Nick M. fifth.
Reno Wrap Up: With five planes flying today things were a little harder to watch everyone at once. There were no called cuts during the racing and the pilots kflew excellent racing. We flew Reno also without pylon judges and on the honor system and the CD's calls, also No streamers. Thanks guys for coming out and joining the fun.
